Care Guide: How to Wash & Protect Printed Clothing
To keep your printed designs vibrant and prevent cracking, fading, or peeling, please follow these essential care instructions.
1. Detergents to AVOID:
The golden rule is to avoid any detergent that is designed to strip away substances, as it will also attack the inks and adhesives of your print.
-
❌ Bleaches: Do not use chlorine bleach or oxygen-based bleach (e.g., OxiClean). They cause severe fading and discoloration.
-
❌ Heavy-Duty Biological Detergents: Avoid strong "bio" detergents with powerful enzymes (e.g., for stain removal), as they can break down the print.
-
❌ Harsh Degreasers & Abrasives: Never use detergents with strong solvents or abrasive particles, as they will damage the print's surface.
-
❌ Detergents with Optical Brighteners: These chemicals can alter the colors of your print.
2. Disinfectants: Use with Extreme Caution
Most disinfectants are not compatible with printed clothing due to their harsh chemical properties.
-
❌ Chlorine & Oxygen Bleaches: Absolutely avoid. They are strong oxidizers that will destroy prints.
-
❌ Phenol-Based Disinfectants (e.g., Dettol): Not recommended. They are often designed to work in hot water and can be harsh on prints.
-
⚠️ If you must disinfect: Use a color-safe, oxygen-free, low-temperature disinfectant (e.g., some Quaternary Ammonium-based formulas). Always follow the manufacturer's instructions carefully and dilute properly.
3. Recommended Detergents & Washing Method
-
✅ Color-Safe Detergent: Use a mild, bleach-free detergent labeled "For Colors" or "Color Guard."
-
✅ Gentle / Sensitive Skin Formula: These are typically free of dyes, perfumes, and harsh irritants.
-
✅ Baby Detergent: Formulated to be extremely gentle on fabrics.
4. Best Washing Practices:
-
✅ Turn the Garment Inside Out: This is the single most effective step to protect the print from friction.
-
✅ Wash in Cold Water: Hot water can cause fading and soften the print adhesive.
-
✅ Use a Gentle Cycle: Select your machine's delicate, handwash, or gentle cycle.
-
✅ Do Not Soak: Avoid prolonged soaking of the printed area.
-
✅ Air Dry: Never tumble dry on high heat. Heat is the biggest cause of cracking and peeling. Always air dry flat or on a hanger. If you must use a dryer, use the no-heat/air fluff setting.
-
✅ Ironing: If needed, iron the garment inside-out on a low heat setting. Do not iron directly on the print.
Warm reminder: If there are wrinkles on the printed patterns on the clothes you receive, they will disappear by washing with water and drying in the sun, so don't worry.
